Once the files are opened in the SolidWorks design space, users can make changes, update or modify the files as per their requirements by checking out the file and make the changes visible to all the project users by checking into it. Users with the read/write permissions can perform check-in and check-out


Check-Out a PDM file

The Check-out option in PDM allows users to make changes to the PDM file. After checking out a file, only the user who performed the check-out and admins can work on it. Now, follow the steps to perform check out,


  1. Select the desired file, right-click on it and choose the Open File or Open Latest option to open the selected file

  1. Select the Check Out option located under the Enginero tab from the task pane bar to check out the opened file. Alternatively, users can perform a check-out by right-clicking on the opened file and choosing the Check Out option

  1. After the file is checked out, an acknowledgement message will be displayed

  1. The checked-out files will be identified by a logo just before the file name. Hovering the mouse over the logo will display the name of the user who checked out
  2. After checking out a file, users can make necessary changes to the file in SolidWorks as per their requirements

Check-In a PDM file

The Check-In option in PDM allows users to reflect the changes made to the file in the Enginero PDM web application. After checking in a file, the version will also get updated. Now, follow the steps to perform check in,


  1. Select the Active Check In option located under the Enginero tab from the task pane bar to check in the opened file or users can select the Check In option if the file to be checked out is not currently open

  1. Alternatively, users can perform a check-in by right-clicking on the opened file and choosing the Check In option

  1. If there are no modifications or changes made on the file, users will receive a pop-up notification. To continue, users should make some necessary changes to the file

  1. Select the check box indicating Include Dependencies to upload all the related files and click on the Check In button to complete the process

  1. After the file is checked in, an acknowledgement message will be displayed

  1. After a successful check-in, the file version will also be updated

Undo Check-Out a PDM file

The Undo Check-Out option in PDM allows users to remove the file from check-out stage without updating the changes and version of the file. Now, follow the steps to perform undo check out,


  1. Select the files that need to be removed from the check-out stage

  1. Click on the Undo Check Out option under the Enginero tab from the task pane bar. Alternatively, users can perform undo check-out by right-clicking on the checked-out file and choosing the Undo Check Out option

  1. If the file to be undo checked-out is open, users will receive a pop-up notification. To continue, simply close the file and proceed to undo check-out

Notes:

  • After performing the Undo Check Out, the modifications or changes made by the users will be restored to the current version
